When we read newspapers, both printed and electronic, of course, the first thing we pay attention to is the images presented. The reader will find out about the picture by reading the text given to the part of the picture. We will know the events in the image through the text. So it is very important to provide accompanying text (caption) on a published image.

Do you understand the caption text that you read earlier ? Good job. Make it easier to understand the caption text from the picture because we can guess it based on the picture given other than that the sentences used are fact sentences.

Example:

1. Jakartans enjoy a trial run of the first phase of the Jakarta MRT.

2. City-owned PT MRT Jakarta is carrying out a free trial of its new service until March 24.

3. In this Sept. 20, 2018 photo, 5th grade teacher Heather Dalton, center, works with students Julian Ryno, left, and Mo'Kenley Burns

Pay attention to the three sentences quoted from the text. Those three sentences are fact sentences, right? You are absolutely right, we usually call it the present sentence.

Example of Caption Text 2:

 1. What is the text about?

This question is usually to ask the topic of a text. Topic is always there in the main sentence, which is usually located at the beginning of the sentence. Then we will we can answered The text is about a trial run of the first phase of the Jakarta MRT.

 2. Who are in the picture?

The question starts with the word "who" so the answer is of course related to the person. We see the picture there are a lot of people then we read the text. In the first sentence there is the word "Jakartans" this is the word to say people from Jakarta. So that the answer to the second question is that Jakartans are in the picture.

 3. What do they do based on the picture?

Questions start with the word "what" and use the verb "do" then the answer is the activity in the picture, we can also find it in the first sentence because "they" is a pronoun for "Jakartans". So the answer to question no 3 is They enjoy a trial run of the first phase of the Jakarta MRT.

 4. Where did the picture publish?

The question starts with "where" then the answer is related to the place published or the media. We can see at the end of the caption there is the name of the media and Writer. The answer is The picture is published on The Jakarta Post.

 5. Why did the writer write the text?

Questions begin with the word "why" the desired answer is the reason for writing the text. Then we can answer to describe the picture of person i riding the MRT. The writer wrote the text because he wanted to describe a picture of Jakartans enjoy a trial run of MRT.
